ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading:  Exodus 19:2-6a
Second Reading: Romans 5:6-11
Gospel: Matthew 9:36–10:8

In today’s Gospel, Jesus looks upon the crowds with compassion, seeing them as sheep without a shepherd. His response is not only to care for them Himself, but to send out His disciples to continue His mission. This is the heart of Christian stewardship: recognizing that we are called, chosen, and entrusted with Christ’s work.

Jesus tells the disciples, “Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.” Everything we have—our faith, our gifts, our time, our resources—comes from God’s generosity. Stewardship invites us to share these blessings freely, just as freely as we received them.

As Jesus sends the disciples to heal, to lift burdens, and to proclaim the Kingdom, we are reminded that our own acts of service, compassion, and generosity are part of God’s ongoing mission in the world. Whether through prayer, ministry, or daily kindness, we participate in Christ’s work of healing and hope.

May we respond with willing hearts, offering our gifts in gratitude and trust, knowing that God multiplies every act of love we share.

Summary

Jesus teaches about the Kingdom of God using two parables. He compares God’s Kingdom to a seed that grows quietly and mysteriously—whether the farmer is awake or asleep, the seed develops on its own. Jesus also speaks of the mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds, which grows into a large plant that offers shelter to many. Through these images, Jesus reminds us that God’s work often begins in small, hidden ways but grows into something far greater than we can imagine.
